February 27 Updates on Bayanihan Sa Iligan Village. Gawad Kalinga Iligan headed by our GK Head, Brod Jake Gerona, is ready to construct the houses anytime. However, the DPWH and other national agencies including the City Government of Iligan are still developing the site in order to attain its proper elevation and for the land be compacted according to the standards.
DPWH is conducting a Field Density Test (FDT) to determine whether the land, where the houses are to be built, are well compacted and GK is waiting for the official results.
GK will not start building houses without the hand-over from the DPWH and a notice to proceed from the City Government.
At the same time, ILPI, the City Engineer’s Office and the Iligan City Waterworks are still installing Power and Water connection at the area necessary for the simultaneous construction of the 1,712 houses.
One area in the site is being allowed by the DPWH and the City Government to construct 25 housing units and its construction is on-going.
GK is not using government funds in the building of the houses and we can immediately start building without any bureaucratic requirements and we will commence once the government agencies will give its go-signal.
GK is very cautious that we are building the houses with the necessary permits, go signal and advice from the National Housing Authority, DENR, the DPWH and the City Government of Iligan. For the meantime, we have already organized our survivors and conducted an on-going enrollment to those prioritized by the DSWD/CSWD.
In behalf of GK Lanao, much as we wanted to turn-over 461 houses last February 25 to the President, it did not push through for reasons mentioned above and aside from the bad weather condition we had in the past two weeks. The President understands this predicament and we ask also for the public’s understanding and consideration.
So, based on that words above. They have not started building the houses, except for one model house.
